# Lack of Departmental Recognition
All the UPSC aspirants should know that the Civil service officers get promotion on the basis of their seniority. Every officer’s rank is determined by the council on the basis of the number of years served by him. When the new spirited officers join the department, they work hard to serve society and to fulfill their social obligations. However, looking at the lethargic condition of their senior colleagues they get demotivation. As a result, their working methods get affect and they drop the ball of burning the midnight lamp.
Even if they work hard, their practices will poke the eyes of those officers who lost their motivation years back. As a result, the departmental rivalry will pervade.
# The policy of Transfers
While joining the civil services, aspirants hope to serve at the reputed position of DM, SP, or even Commissioners. The aspirants should clearly know that the job is not as easy as it seems. Moreover, the officers are always on the target of various departmental and political heads in case of personal mishappenings. This implies that the officers, if not able to please their superiors, might taste the uncertainties of frequent transfers.
We all know about the Transfer Cycle of “The Whistleblower Ashok Khemka”. In the span of 28 years, this man has been transferred 53 times because of his honest and undeterred principles.
# The Political Pawns
It wouldn’t be wrong to state that many officers serve as the legislative comrades of the political parties. The practices of these officers are not only of one side but also corrupt in favor of their masters. These officers, in order to function, engage themselves in several illegal practices that degrade the virtue of their position. While some officers decided to continue the trend, there were many who just gave the trail away altogether.
# The degradation of Personal Lives
While the lives of IRS and IFoS are a bit easy, the IAS/IPS indulge in a world of rural drudgery. The IAS/IPS are to look after the welfare of an entire district under their jurisdiction. On average, these officers work for a period of 12 hours every day.
It is clearly visible that they hardly get any time to have with their families and relatives. These officers might be posted in rural areas where means for a proper livelihood are down to miserable. An honest and virtuous officer is always under the fear of getting transferred to such a location.
# The vain cycle of Preparation
The aspirants should know that even after devoting years to UPSC, the student might not be able to crack it. It’s a fact that only one candidate out of 5,000 aspirants is able to get into IAS.
Moreover, the candidates who clear the services always face the uncertainty of not getting their desired cadre. It has been observed that around 25% of candidates are posted on designations that were not demanded by them. Clearly, a big demotivating element to pause the whole thought of pursuing the Civil Services.
