UPSC Mains 2014 General Studies and Essay Paper
General Studies has four papers viz. GS Paper I, GS Paper II, GS Paper III, GS Paper GS Paper IV. Each paper consists of around 20 questions. Every GS paper is of 300 marks each. Apart from this, Essay Paper consists of 2 questions and in each question, you are given four choices and a person has to write only one essay from those choices.

UPSC Mains 2014 Literature Compulsory Paper
Mains Compulsory Paper are those Paper which all the candidates has to give. You can choose any two language and give their exam. If you are successful in clearing the exam, you will be eligible to give other mains exam. If you fail to qualify it then you attempt will be wasted. You have to just score passing marks (33%) in order to clear this exam.

UPSC Mains 2014 Optional Paper
A candidate has to choose a subject from the list of Optional Subject. The Optional Exam consists of two paper Paper 1 and Paper 2. Each Paper consists of 250 marks. The marks of Optional Subject are counted in the final Merit list. Practising its previous year paper helps a person greatly in scoring high in the examination.

UPSC Mains 2014 Literature Optional Paper
UPSC Optional Literature Subject includes all those language which a candidate can choose as his optional. Candidate can also choose a language and can give its test. Questions on the literature of that language will be asked. There will be two paper where each paper is of 250 marks.
