In the second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project, the metro will operate on two routes of a total length of 28.25 km.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed Bhoomi Pujan on Monday and laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Project and the Surat Metro Rail Project. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also attended the event organized through video conference. These metro projects will provide environment friendly and sustainable public transport system in these cities.

In the second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project, the metro will operate on two routes of a total length of 28.25 km. The first corridor will run from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir and will have a total length of 22.83 km while the second corridor will be from GNLU to Gift City with a total length of 5.41 km. The total cost on these projects would be Rs 5384.17 crore.

The estimated cost of the Surat Metro Rail Project with two metro rail corridors of total 40.35 km length is Rs 12020.32 crore. The total length of the first corridor from Sarathna to Dream City is 21.61 km, of which 6.47 km is underground and 15.14 km is above ground. The corridor will connect 20 stations- Sarathna, Nature Park, Kapodara, Benefeshwar Chowk Area, Central Ware House, Surat Railway Station, Muscat Hospital, Gandhi Bagh, Mazur Gate, Rupali Canal, Dream City.

The second corridor is from Bhesan to Saroli line which is 18.74 km long. It is completely elevated (elevated). It will connect 18 metro stations Jhr Bhesan, Ugat, Warigraha, Palanpur Road, LP Savani School, Adajan Gam, Aquarium, Mazur Gate, Kamela Darwaja, Magob and Saroli.
